The Moonlit Path: Norse Full Moon Rituals for Power and Release
In Norse mythology, the moon is not a symbol of stillness—but of pursuit. Máni, the moon god, is forever chased through the night sky by a wolf. He is not passive. He is motion. Momentum. The sacred rhythm of time.
To walk the moonlit path is to recognize that we, too, are always in cycle—waxing and waning, revealing and releasing. The full moon is a moment of pause in that movement. A threshold. A mirror. A blade.
When the moon stands full, it invites you to see clearly. To let go. To rise.
🔮 The Full Moon in Norse Cosmology
While the sun was associated with action and daylight deeds, the moon belonged to mystery, dreams, and deeper knowing. Máni was said to guide the tides of fate, his silver light illuminating the edges of the unseen.
In the Eddas, time itself is marked by the moon's passage. It governs the hidden forces—the shifts beneath what’s spoken. The full moon, in this worldview, is not gentle. It is fierce in its clarity. It pulls the truth to the surface.
To work with the full moon is to step into revelation and release. You do not simply observe. You choose. You cut what no longer belongs. You carry forward only what is true.
🕯️ A Full Moon Ritual for Power and Release
Time: Night of the full moon (or one day before/after if needed)
Tools: Candle, journal, bowl of water or flame-safe dish, incense or oil
Optional: Rune (Tiwaz ᛏ or Isa ᛁ), moonstone, white cloth
1. Prepare the Space
- Cleanse with sacred smoke or breath.
- Dim the lights. Light a single candle.
- Sit facing the moonlight if possible—or invoke Máni aloud:
“Moon-chased god, mirror of night—guide me in what must fall away.”
2. Speak the Truth
- Write down what is no longer serving you. A pattern. A fear. A belief. A name.
- Read it aloud to yourself. See it under the moon.
- Burn the paper in the dish or drip water over the ink until it fades.
3. Invocation for Release
“By the light of the moon, I release.
By the will of the wolf, I move.
By my own breath, I choose what stays.”
4. Breathe, Journal, or Simply Be
Let silence complete the ritual. Feel the space you've made. Listen inward.

🌌 Closing Reflection: You Are the Moon
The moon does not shine. It reflects.
And so do we.
When we release, we are not losing. We are allowing space for truth to echo. For the sacred to return. For new phases to unfold.
Stand beneath the full moon. Speak what no longer fits. Then move forward like Máni himself—chased by wildness, crowned in silver.
You are not empty. You are becoming.
